Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MCASA)

  • MCASA’s mission is to help prevent sexual assault, advocate for accessible, compassionate care for survivors of sexual violence, and work to hold offenders accountable. MCASA actively works to end sexual violence in the state of Maryland through public policy, community outreach, education, and technical assistance. The services and resources provided include:

    • An advice and resource page on what to do after a sexual assault which includes connections to medical resources, ways to report, and locating a rape crisis center
    • A complete listing of Maryland Rape Crisis and Recovery Centers as well as a tool for finding the one nearest you. These centers have trained hotline staff available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to answer questions or to just listen. Your call is free and always confidential. Hotline staff can offer options and help identify what is best for you.
    • A link and toll-free number to contact MCASA’s Sexual Assault Legal Institute, which provides services to survivors including bulleted information about their legal rights, criminal justice advocacy and civil services.
    • Information on medical services, such as the process for obtaining a free SAFE exam, detailed info about the exam process and a list of locations which administer the exam. During the exam, a trained nurse or physician will look for things that might identify an attacker, as well as provide medical care for injuries and to help prevent things like STIs and pregnancy. You can decide to report to the police when you get the exam or you can decide that you do not want to talk to the police at that time-either way the exam will be FREE. An advocate from your local Rape Crisis Center can also accompany you to receive your exam to support you through the process.
    • A resource page which includes all of the aforementioned information as well as links to pdfs and websites for other local and national services, including but not limited to specific resources for male survivors, transgender survivors, and black women survivors.
    • A page for people who have a friend or family member who is a survivor, which includes links to resources, ways to help, access to brochures about sexual assault issues and ways to volunteer.
